Old Year Ends With Rain New Year Starts Warm & Dry Week Ahead Outlook

The last day of 2022 is a gray damp one for sure as we have a southerly flow ahead of low pressure and a cold front. Showers are developing to the southwest and they will be moving in from south to north today with the bulk of the rain from this afternoon to around midnight or so depending on where you are.

Temperatures today will top out in the mid 50s to around 60 degrees which is almost 20 degrees above normal. In spite of the warm weather of the last 2 days, December 2022 will finish with temperatures about 1 to 1.5 degrees below average!

Satellite and radar loops show clouds moving northeast and showers are developing to the southwest. Expect anywhere between a quarter and a third of an inch of rain since this system really isn’t all that impressive. It is just a nusiance rain at worst. Once the rains get out of the way tonight we will see improving weather conditions toward Sunday morning.

New Year’s Day sees very warm temperatures on a northwest wind and one wonders whether we could see highs finish higher than advertised. There isn’t much in the way of cold air behind this system so highs will reach the upper 50s and lower 60s and we should have a fair amount of sunshine Sunday.

Monday will be warm and dry with sunshine and highs will be in the 50s. Tuesday sees the next cold front a approach as low pressure heads to the Great Lakes. This will bring clouds and some showers Tuesday night into Wednesday. Tuesday highs will be in the 60s.

Once this cold front passes we will see temperatures move lower for the end of the week. This cold front is going to stall and a wave will develop on it and move northeast. There is some uncertainty here regarding what the wave will produce precipitation wise and it is possible that it will pass offshore with little consequence. It is also possible that we could get a cold rain out of it later Thursday into Friday and it might even be cold enough for a little snow inland assuming this wave becomes somthing we will have to deal with. Otherwise we finish of 2022 wet and warm and start 2023 dry and warm. Happy New Year to all.
