New Jersey Heatwave Into The Weekend Severe Weather Risk Thursday

The weather focus this week for New Jersey is statewide heat. Wether you are in North Jersey or South Jersey, it will be hot and it will be humid. This heatwave will run at least 5 consecutive days and possibly longer. As for shower and thunderstorm activity, Thursday and Sunday will be the two days when weather fronts will be moving through and triggering off the chance for thunderstorms. Otherwise on other days only an isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible and for 99 percent won’t see much of anything.

SOUTH JERSEY HIGHS THURSDAY

NORTH JERSEY HIGHS THURSDAY

Right now Thursday is setting up to be the hottest day of the week with highs in many areas reaching the middle 90s. Humidity levels will be quite high so it will feel like it is over 100 degrees. As far as the cold front that approaches late in the day, the Storm Prediction Center has Northern New Jersey in severe weather risk with general thunderstorm risk elsewhere in the state.

Marginal risk means that severe thunderstorms will be isolated with other thunderstorms possible that don’t reach severe criteria. We could see this marginal risk area extended further south. As far as a serious break in the heat, thay may not come until next week. We may get some slight humidity relief Friday into early Saturday (and I do mean slight) and perhaps a sliglty larger break in the humidity early next week. The issue now is that the cooler drier shots of air coming from Canada are not nearly as robust nor is the jet stream as far south as what we saw earlier in the month. Therefore it is 90 degree or higher highs until further notice with high humidity and most of the time it will be rain free.
