WORST SUMMER FOR HAIR IN 50 YEARS
IF IT FEELS LIKE AN EXCEPTIONALLY HUMID SUMMER…IT WAS!
,MORE HOURS WITH DEW POINTS ABOVE 70 SINCE 1971!
In a world where in the midst of of its problems and all of its turmoil, it is wise to remember that it was, is, and always will be about hair! Now that we have laid that foundation we can say unequivocally that this summer was probably the most humid summer in 50 years based on number of hours with dew points above 70. This summer has taken the cake in just about every observation station we have looked at in and around NYC, the Hudson Valley & Long Island.
Newark has not yet taken out the 1994 high but it is very close and should do it either today or Thursday. There could be additional hours to add to this as we move into the first part of September judging from the weather pattern ahead.
This week has been especially oppressive given the temperatures in the low to mid 90s and dew points in the 70s combining to produce heat indices of 105 or higher in some places. The good news is that we will begin to see an easing of the oppressive humidity and heat beginning on Thursday as highs will be closer to 90 rather than 95. Friday and Saturday we should be in the 70s with lot of clouds. We could see 70 dew points make a reappearance next week as the upper ridge continues to hold and flex its muscle along the East Coast.
