More Rain Today Sunday Before Weather Conditions Get Better Memorial Day

Many have said in the last week or two how badly we needed rain. Well we took care of that overnight as many areas got clobbered with rain. Many spots getting 1.50 to 2 inches of rain which not only alleviated dry conditions but it also washed all the pollen out of the air once and for all! There is however more rain on the way for today though there are a few breaks thrown into the mix. Gale Warnings are in effect for winds gusting to over 40 mph along the coast. Coastal flood advisories are up for the coastal counties of New Jersey, New York Harbor, the shores of Westchester County into coastal Connecticut and Long Island with minor coastal flooding likely at high tide.

The satellite shows clouds everywhere and the radar shows rain areas across the Mid Atlantic with patches of moderate to heavy rain embedded within. The bottom line is today is raw breezy and wet from time to time. Temperatures fell into the 40s last night and they will stay pretty much in the upper 40s and lower 50s all day long.

The overnight low has exited to the northeast but here comes the next one as it primes up in North Carolina this afternoon. That will bring more rain here Sunday. This will be the last wave. Between what falls today and what falls Sunday another inch or two of rain will fall on top of the inch or two we had overnight. Temperatures Sunday will be in the 50s as it remains raw though today will be cooler than Sunday.

Rain will start to shift northeastward Sunday night and it should be done Monday morning with the exception of perhaps Eastern Long Island and Southeastern New England where there still might be some lingering showers early in the morning. We are going to focus on it slowly improving Monday with decreasing clouds and perhaps some developing sunshine in the afternoon. Monday’s highs should be in the 60s to perhaps near 70 in some areas where enough sunshine occurs. Nice weather returns Tuesday and Wednesday along with warmer temperatures. Highs Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the 70s to near 80 and Thursday we could see highs into the 80s before the next cold front and the next chance for showers or thunderstorms late Thursday or Friday.
