Low Humidity Mainly Sunny Skies Continue Into Early Thursday
Before Showers Thunderstorms
Our adventure in a rather delightful pattern continues today and lasts into Thursday across much of the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic states. Sunday was a spectacular day by most standards. The dry air mass that is moving southeast from Canada continues to take the slow road so the longer it takes the build in, the longer it sticks around. A weak upper trough is moving offshore today and all that means is more dry air comes in behind it. On the satellite loop a developing low well east of the Virginia coast looks like it may be developing into a tropical system but it is moving to the east with no issues here. So it will be a day of lots of sunshine with nothing more than a few passing clouds. Afternoon highs today will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s with delightful levels of humidity.
WEATHER RADAR
This time of year night conditions are more important from the standpoint of comfort plus sleeping with the windows open is a nice thing. Skies will be clear tonight with most lows in the 50s away from the coast and warmer urban areas where it will be in the low to middle 60s. Tuesday will be a nice day of sunshine and low humidity. Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Nighttime lows into Wednesday morning will again be in the 50s inland and low to mid 60s coast and warmer urban settings. Wednesday will be another nice day of sunshine and highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
High pressure will begin to slip offshore later Wednesday which will begin a southeast flow off the ocean. Intially there will be no impact on the dew points but they will start to come up Wednesday night and Thursday. We are also going to be seeing a cold front approach from the northwest.
Look for clouds to roll in Thursday and the humidity will be coming up. However temperatures won’t be shooting up which means that yes it will start to turn more humid but with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s forecast, it isn’t anything terrible. We will see some sun at times Thursday but there could be some scattered showers or a thunderstorm around in the afternoon.
This cold front will move to the coast Thursday night and Friday morning with showers and thunderstorms ahead of it. There is a timing issue on the models as the GFS is faster and moves the front along. The European shows the front getting hung up along the coast Friday with the risk for showers and thunderstorms all day long. We tend to lean toward the idea that the front gets hung up on Friday as they seem to like to do that this summer. Friday highs will be in the lower 80s.
It seems to me we could have a nice weekend as high pressure builds in for Saturday and at least part of Sunday. This dry air shot looks to be a little weaker so the humidity will be lower for Saturday into early Sunday and then it starts to rise again as another front approaches late in the weekend. Highs both Saturday and Sunday will be in a range of 80 to 85 degrees in most places. There is a fair chance any showers with another front will hold off until Sunday night or possibly Monday.
