Long Island Weekend & Thanksgiving Week Outlook Rough Travel
Late Tuesday Into Wednesday
We are headed into the weekend on Long Island and next week we have the Thanksgiving holiday Thursday. This means that the first part of the week and especially Tuesday and Wednesday are heavy travel days either by car or by plane. First things first will be Friday which is a warm day with probably some sunshine giving way to arriving clouds. We have a cold front coming in from the west as well as a developing low that will be passing to the east and offshore. Bascially we are in a bit of a sweet spot because we miss heavy rains from the coastal low and the front itself will be on the week side.
SATELLITE
WEATHER RADAR
We won’t see anything rain wise during the day Friday and probably during the first half of Friday night. Temperatures Friday will warm to the mid 60s. Some showers from the cold front could move through later Friday night into Saturday morning but the rainfall should not amount to much. Then we will see leftover clouds for the remainder of Saturday. Perhaps some sun could develop in the afternoon. Saturday highs will be in the mid to upper 50s. Sunday and Monday will be chilly days but reasonable. Some sunshine is forecast for Sunday with highs in the lower 50s. Monday will be colder with some sunshine and highs just in the middle to upper 40s.
Weather conditions on Long Island will deteriorate Tuesday with increasing clouds and rain developing in the afternoon. Low pressure heading to the Great Lakes has a strong front attached to it and we could see heavy rains and gusty winds Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The gradient will tighten up and it could get a bit windy Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning. We have the potential for 1.5 to 2 inches of rain falling in that time span. Low pressure strengthens in Eastern Canada. Winds shift to the northwest Wednesday and remain strong and gusty. Some sunshine will develop though. Tuesday highs will be in the low to mid 50s and early highs Wednesday will also be in the 50s but colder air will be coming in during the afternoon and into Thursday morning. Thanksgiving Day itself will feature sunshine but it will be cold with a northwest wind. Highs Thanksgiving day will be in the lower 40s at best. We will be updating this forecast as we head into next week.
