Long Island Weekend Outlook Dry Nice Warmer Saturday Rain Arriving Sunday October 21, 2022
We have arrived at another autumn weekend and after the chilly temperatures of this week, a nice warm up takes place for Saturday. This will be the better of the two weekend days. High pressure to the east is necked back into the Northeast and Mid Atlantic is holding clouds and rain off the Southeast coast at bay. That leaves us with a day of lot of sunshine with high temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. There are no issues on the satellite or on the radars through Saturday.
The high to the northeast will give away enough to allow developing low pressure off the Southeast US coast to begin to move northward Saturday night and that will bring an increase in cloud cover with most lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Sunday will be a cloudy day and we will be watching rain moving up from the south and gradually overspreading the island during the day.
Models seem to be a little slower with bringing in rain as the NAM model shows above but it may be underdoing the amount of moisture here. I think there is a fair chance that Sunday morning will be dry and that the rain moves in from the southeast during the afternoon. As for temperatures, between clouds and the wind from the east, temperatures will probably struggle between 60 and 65 degrees.
This low is not likely to strengthen much as it moves northward and it doesn’t have a chance to become tropical because it is just moving too quickly up the coast. With that out of the list of issues we will probably have on and off rain Sunday night and then it should be gone Monday other than some lingering rain early in the day. Rainfall amounts will be on the order of half an inch to perhaps as much as an inch in some places.
