Long Island Snow on Tuesday evening should not amount to much. A cold front will be approaching and moving through. Right behind it is a strong upper air disturbance that could trigger off some snow showers. It might be enough to whiten the ground in spots. But it is equally possible that some areas may miss it entirely. Before that there could be a rain shower or two in the afternoon as that front approaches.
Long Island Snow Amounts
Satellite loop tonight shows the upper air disturbance and the clipper approachin the Great Lakes. There isn’t much snow with this right now but it will pick up some moisture tomorrow as it nears the coast. Skies tonight will be mostly clear and it will be cold with lows down in the lower 20s in most areas. There should be enough of a breeze to keep temperatures from falling much lower in the coldest spots in Suffolk County. Tuesday we will see highs reach the 40s before the cold front comes through in the afternoon with a rain shower or two and then a burst of snow during the evening before it all ends rather quickly by 9 or 10 pm.
Radars have been busy in upstate New York with lots of lake effect snow going on but that will diminsh a bit tonight and then fire up again when the clipper goes by. The radar below shows the beginnings of the clipper moisture developing.
Wednesday and Thursday for Long Island will be very cold with some sunshine both days but highs will only be in the upper 20s to lower 30s on both afternoons. Temperatures will moderate on Friday back above 40. Then models are keying on a possible developing storm off the coast Saturday. That could produce noreaster conditions for awhile Friday night and Saturday though I think right now it will be warm enough for just plain rain and not snow. See my latest long range JOESTRADAMUS post on this. Long Island snow has been minimal so far this winter and unless we see something different develop in the next few weeks, the chances for snow will continue to remain elusive.
