Snow Amounts
Usually with clippers snow amounts tend to be light, especially clippers that go by to our north and don’t at least reform in our backyard. This one should be no different. Some places could see a burst of snow that whitens the ground or maybe even leave a coating to an inch depending on elevation. At the same time a few miles away, you might get little or nothing. Such is the variability with these sorts of systems. Snow amounts will be light though for much of the area it could be the first dusting of snow!
There is a lot of energy aloft and that is really what will create this. The satellite loop shows the clipper coming into the Western Great Lakes and moving right along as the atmosphere continues to undergo fast changes.
Radars right now show lake effect snows in upstate New York which have been quite robust along the eastern shores of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie south of Buffalo. Up to 3 feet is forecast in some areas there. These snows will get enhanced again once the clipper goes by and winds shift into the northwest.
Tonight it will be mostly clear with some clouds toward morning with lows in the teens to low 20s. Then it clouds up tomorrow and warms up to upper 30s to middle 40s from north to south. The risk of a burst of snow from mid afternoon through mid evening. In Eastern Pennsylvania some snow could arrive earlier where snow could total an inch or two with some higher amounts possible in elevated areas. The same holds for the Hudson Valley of New York and in Connecticut north of route 84.
Very cold air follows Wednesday and Thursday with some sunshine both days but highs will only be in the upper 20s to lower 30s each day.
