Long Island Could See Near Record Highs Friday & Saturday
Before Showers Arrive Sunday
A warm air mass covers the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic states for the next couple of days and Long Island is basking in mid September weather rather than late October weather. The next two days will be the warmest of this stretch of weather. Much of the cloud cover on satellite loops remains well to the north of Long Island as well as NYC, New Jersey and the Hudson Valley. A warm night of lows in the 50s to near 60 lies ahead but the long autumn nights in a warm air mass usually result in some patchy fog. Friday we will see sunshine and tempertures will top in the mid to upper 70s. Some 80 degree highs are possible well inland away from the South Shore as well as areas to the west in NYC and into Southeastern NY and Northern New Jersey.
SATELLITE
WEATHER RADAR
There are no rain issues into the weekend so the radars will remain silent through the daytime Saturday. A warm Friday night with some patchy fog possible and lows in the mid 50s to lower 60s will lead to a sunny and very warm Saturday. Highs will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s and again there could be some record highs set.
Saturday will be the last very warm day as a cold front will be approaching Saturday night into Sunday. With that front will come a wind shift to the east and northeast and it will come with much lower temperatures. We will likely be 20 degrees colder for Sunday with lots of clouds and the chance for showers from time to time. Most highs Sunday will be just into the 60s.
Showers will continue on and off Sunday night into Monday afternoon before the cold front moves offshore. Monday highs will be in the 50s. As long as the front continues to move along, it will turn much colder for Tuesday and Wednesday with dry conditions but highs just in the upper 40s to around 50. We could see some frosts and freezes Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
