Ice Storm Underway Inland with very cold air holding firm for the time being. You can see on the temperature map below where the freezing line is as of 7pm. Snow continues north and west of this line in Connecticut and the Hudson Valley and Northern New Jersey while it has changed to feezing rain north and west of I-95 southward into Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Ice accumulations of up to .10 inch to up to .25 inch is forecast especially northward into Northeast Pennsylvania, Northwest New Jersey, Hudson Valley & Interior Connecticut.

The freezing line is being held back by a developing low center over the Delmarva Peninsula. The current surface map shows a weak low pressure center forming there. It has turned the winds to northeast north of the the center. The main low center is further southwest of this low and that low is forecast to become the dominant player eventually. However the low on the warm front is slowing the warming down. This increases the ice storm threat inland.

Once the warm air penetrates northern areas, more rain is forecast for Tuesday as low pressure moves northward right up the spine of the Appalachians. Temperatures should rise into the 40s and 50s before winds shift and the low goes by later Tuesday. Heavy snow could fall over the Western half of Pennsylvania and upstate New York west of the Hudson River. National Weather Service snow forecast maps for all areas are at the link below.
