Hurricane Lee Passes to the East Early Saturday Morning,

Clouds Today From the East Into Early Saturday

Hurricane Lee conntinues on a steady course to the north northeast. We have Tropical Storm Warnings up for all of Eastern New England from Southeast Massachusetts to coastal Maine to the US Canada border. We also have Tropical Storm Warnings up for Atlantic Canada including New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Lee is forecast to move north northeast today and then bend back to the north tonight into Saturday and then turning northeast. Most forecast tracks take Lee into the Bay of Fundy or the southwest coast of Nova Scotia during Saturday.

We are already seeing impacts to coastal areas from Southern New England southward over Long Island and New Jersey. Coastal Flood Advisories are up for Long Island north and south shore and right now the forecast is for minor coastal flooding at high tides tonight into Sunday but that will depend of any impacts of storm surge which is still unknown. Meawhile we are already seeing waves of 6 feet or higher crashing into the beaches and that will continue as well. Clouds from me have backed westward as the satellite loops show with the cloud line reaching NYC. West and northwest of there we have mostly sunny skies

How far west the cloud line gets remains to be seen but areas inland of the coast and to the west across New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the Hudson Valley should be no worse than partly sunny this afternoon. Most highs will be in the low to mid 70s. Winds will be on the gusty side along the coast on the order of 20 to 30 mph this afternoon and especially tonight into Saturday..

Tonight we will see the western edge of the rain from Lee reach Eastern Long Island and possibly Eastern Connecticut for a brief time but it shouldn’t amount to much nor should it last for more than a few hours.. Tropical Storm Conditions with bands of heavier rain and stronger winds of 40 mph or higher will be likely from Southeastern Massachusetts northeastward to along the Maine coast overnight and Saturday.

During Saturday we should see sunshine to the west of NYC and Coastal NJ and clouds gradually giving way to sunshine to the east across Southern New England and Long Island. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s along with a gusty northwest wind especially along coastal areas. Lee will make landfall Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Canada and continue to move northeasward. This should lead to clear skies for Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England Saturday night.

Sunday will likley start with some sunshine but a cold front will be approaching. Winds will turn southwest and highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. We could see some showers and perhaps a thunderstorm Sunday evening and Sunday night as the front nears the coast.

This front will move along to the east and another dry air mass will arrive for the first half of next week. High pressure will build to the north and winds will be northeast but we don’t see issues with onshore winds and gloom and doom weather. Rather we think Monday will be partly sunny with the chance for another shower as an upper trough passes. Highs will be in the 70s. Tuesday and Wednesday looks to be dry and sunny with low humidity and highs in the 70s both days.
