High Wind Watch Monday
WEATHER VIDEO…WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS
HOW WILL THE NOREASTER PLAY OUT
High Wind Watch Monday
The National Weather Service has placed Coastal New Jersey, Long Island, New York City, Southern Westchester County and Coastal Connecticut under a High Wind Watch for Monday which makes sense. This storm that is headed our way will track to the south and east of us and put us in a very tight pressure gradient during the day Monday. This system looks to produce winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up in the 50 to 60 mph range along immediate coastal areas. All the latest weather models area pretty much the same with the strong wind field being generated from Cape May New Jersey northeastward to Cape Cod.
Since nothing of consequence really begins until Sunday night we can focus our attention to the rest of this afternoon and Sunday where we will be sitting in clouds. Low clouds thanks to a very moist bottom layer of the atmosphere continue to be stubborn. We will remain overcast through Sunday with nothing more than the odd brightening of the sky in a few places or a break of sun if you area lucky,
SATELLITE LOOP
The satellite loop is showing lead moisture lifting up from the Gulf states with an area of rain. This first shot of rain should pass to our south and east on Sunday but you can begin to see the second disturbance coming out of the southwest which is going to be are storm for Sunday night into Tuesday.
REGIONAL RADAR
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
As gray as it looks, there are no showers on the radar to worry about and unless some spotty drizzle pops up we should be dry for the remainder of the day into Sunday morning. Weather conditions begin to deteriorate Sunday night with wind and rain increasing. The strongest winds and the heaviest rains will be from Monday morning through the first part of Monday evening. We may see the rain end for awhile Monday night until the low swings out to the east and we get a second burst on Tuesday on the backside. With regards to snow even though some models are showing snow reaching south to the coast, I frankly don’t understand why this is the case since the atmosphere both at the surface and aloft is just too warm. Any snow sleet should be well to the north of Route 84 in my opinion though some sleet or wet snow could be in the mix at times in the highest elevated areas to the north northwest and northeast.
