High Wind Warning Winds 50-60 MPH Tonight Monday
We wait for the winds to pick up later today but the real howling won’t begin until tonight and continue through Monday. Winds from the west and northwest will increase to 20 to 35 mph sustained and there will be gusts of 50 to 60 mph out of this. A major storm is over the Great Lakes this morning and we are seeing rain moving through ahead of a strong cold front that will be passing through later today.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Regional and local radars are still rather busy with a solid of area of rain that came in during the early morning hours. That rain is moving eastward. To the west we can also see a band of showers with the actual cold front. That should move through this afternoon and after it passes the winds will begin howling from the northwest.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Tonight and tomorrow we blow away as an intense low moves into Southeastern Canada. It is all about the tight pressure gradient between that low and the high to the west back in the Northern Plains. The change in pressure is large relative to the distance and this defines the strength of the wind.
Winds will be an issue all day long Monday before they start to drop off Monday night into Tuesday. Look for some sunshine and clouds with highs just in the 30s and wind chills in the teens and lower 20s. A few passing snow showers can’t be ruled out either. It gets better on Tuesday with sunshine and highs in the 30s.
The next weather system approaches for Thursday as low pressure moves across the Great Lakes and into the Northeast. There is a little bit of southern energy and that is reflected in the warm front and showers you see off the Southeast Coast. Nothing much comes of this as the low to the north slides eastward Thursday bringing with it a chance for rain or wet snow. Two other systems follow behind this for Friday and next weekend. We don’t see anything materially different in the weather pattern ahead from the weather pattern of the past few months. We will take a closer look at this later today.
