Heatwave Continues Into Monday

Thunderstorms Chances Friday Sunday & Monday

Our heatwave enters its 4th day of 90 degree plus highs. There doesn’t seem much to stop temperatures from reaching the low and middle 90s. About the only difference between today and yesterday is that the dew points are just a touch lower but not enough to make an important difference. The satellite hows a wide open clear sky for now but we do have the risk for thunderstorms later today. The Storm Prediction Center has most of the area in a general thunderstorm risk with a marginal risk for severe weather from Pennsylvania west and north into the Catskills. I would just caution that there is the risk for scattered thunderstorms developing everywhere and it is always possible that one or two cells will blow up and become severe.

Look for a warm and humid night with lows in the 70s except near 80 degrees in warmer urban locations. The weekend will be very hot and humid. In fact this will likely be the hottest two days of the month and certainly of the summer. Sunshine is forecast both days. Highs will reach 95 to 100 degrees both Saturday and Sunday.

I do not expect any thunderstorms Saturday but Sunday could see a few scattered late day thunderstorms develop though I would venture to say that most of you won’t see one and if you do get one it will only make the humidity that much worse.

Monday we will still reach into the lower 90s but we will come off the highs of Sunday and it should be the last day of 90 degree highs with the streak ending at 6 in most places. We also have a cold front that will move through and set off thunderstorms. There is a decent upper trough with this from the standpoint of strength so I suspect there will be severe weather risk from this on Monday. The front will get hung up leaving the risk for some thunderstorms Tuesday but highs will be in the 80s. Some slight humidity relief is possible into the middle of next week but not much.
