Heaters Have To Go On Briefly
Heaters and winter clothes haven’t gotten much use or for that matter any use. Add to that the record highs in the 60s and low 70s last week and when cold air gets in here tonight through Sunday morning, you are definietely going to feel the difference. The cold air will begin to arrive this afternoon as one last wave moves by to the east. Today will probably start off with clouds over New Jersey east to Southern New England and Long Island with some sunshine over Eastern Pennsylvania and Northwestern New Jersey. Gradually as the wave goes by we will see the upper layers of the atmosphere dry out and we should see decreasing clouds and increasing amounts of sunshine during Friday afternoon. Temperatures will start out mild but then just settle in the 40s later in the day. Cold air will come in Friday night and temperatures will head into the 20s to low 30s by Saturday morning. Many areas on Saturday will not get out of the 30s.
The radar will begin to show some lake effect snows in upstate New York however the weekend downstate and over all areas from Southeastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England will be dry. Clouds mixed with sunshine Saturday will give way to clear skies Saturday night with another round of lows in the 20s to lower 30s. Here is a snow forecast map for the weekend. We don’t get to use them much these days.
Sunday looks nice and sunny and temperatures will begin to rebound into the low and mid 40s. The climb in temperatures into the 50s will continue on Monday ahead of a weak cold front that will arrive Monday night so heaters will be lowered again. Every single day this month has seen above normal temperatures and Saturday may be the only day this month where temperatures finish close to normal.
Longer range other than a shower Monday night, Tuesday will be dry. Then we have a storm heading to the Great Lakes Wednesday and Thursday with a good shot of a soaking overrunning rain on Wednesday. Christmas Eve still looks very warm with record breaking highs possible with highs at least in the 60s along with the chance for showers. Christmas day looks dry, though models show a weak wave moving along a front but for now I’m not going to put much faith and that. I will be optimistic that Christmas day will be dry and colder but still well above normal in temperatures.
