OPPRESSIVE HEAT & HUMIDITY

TEMPERATURES HUMIDITY RISE HIGHER TUESDAY WEDNESDAY

The heat and humidity have made themselves felt this afternoon. Heat indices are in the middle 90s with a few spots touching the 100 mark. Actual air temperatures are in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees this afternoon so the humidity is giving it an extra added edge of discomfort. The satellite loop shows some high clouds streaming eastward as we get some blow off from thunderstorms to the northwest around the Great Lakes. It is oppressive outside and it will only get even more so Tuesday and Wednesday. The air mass overhead is relatively stable and isolated thunderstorm development is being suppressed area wide so don’t expect any temporary relief from all this.

Looking at afternoon weather models we don’t see much change in the outlook going forward. Heat and humidity continue into Thursday. Look for a steamy overnight with lows in the low to mid 70s. Tuesday and Wednesday high temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s. I don’t think we will see any pop up storms until maybe late Wednesday.

Thursday we will see the cold front approach and move through with a better chance for thunderstorms. This will be the last day of 90 degree highs for this stretch. Once that front passes it stalls to the south. Friday and Saturday it will be cloudy with an onshore flow, a few passing showers and temperatures in the 70s.
