Harvey Weakens Rain Moving Northeastward
Harvey Weakens Rain Moving Northeastward
Harvey is now well inland and the 44th and final advisory has been written by the National Hurricane Center. The center of Harvey which is the swirl on the satellite in the lower Mississippi is moving northeastward into the Tennessee & Ohio Valley. In the meantime here in the northeast we have the noreaster of two days ago offshore south of Nova Scotia moving eastward while the next cold front is swinging across the Great Lakes this morning with not much ahead of it in terms of showers or thunderstorms. We are starting our day with sunshine and it will be a warmer and slightly more humid day than what we have seen recently. Temperatures will reach the 80s this afternoon. When the front passes around mid to late afternoon there could be the scattered shower or thunderstorm but it is my suspicion that those will be few and far between.
SATELLITE LOOP
REGIONAL RADAR
Radars this morning show some activity across upstate Western NY dropping southeast. There isn’t really much moisture wise for this cold front to work with. Once the front passes winds will shift to the north and very cool air builds into the Northeast tonight right into Saturday morning.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Skies will be mostly clear tonight and it will be a bit breezy with lows by morning will be in the 50s. This will be the coolest weather we have seen since early June. Friday will be a nice day but a very cool one with highs just in the upper 60s to lower 70s with sunshine. Friday night into Saturday morning with clear skies and light winds we will see lows in many areas in the 40s with the warmest urban areas down in the lower 50s.
HARVEY REMNANTS & THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND
It appears that Saturday day side should be dry with sunshine giving way to some afternoon arriving clouds with highs in the 60s to near 70. There will be a wind from off the ocean which will keep temperatures in check. It appears that we will get a shot of rain Saturday night into Sunday morning. Most of the moisture from Harvey will be spent west of the Appalachians so it doesn’t appear to be a big deal for us. Weather conditions should improve Sunday afternoon with some sunshine returning and temperatures rising to the 70s to near 80. Monday Labor Day looks like a fine late summer day with sunshine and temperatures in the 80s.
