Groundhog Day Winter Continues
Groundhog Day Winter Continues
With the annual tradition of the meteorological rodent now done, we can say that in its never to be humble opinion that winter continues for another 6 weeks. I’m not sure whether the Ground hog looks at the monthly long range models (I don’t) but rather than focus on 6 weeks, I will focus on the next 6 days which is difficult enough given what is going on. This morning colder air is beginning to settle in and we have a lot of cloud cover to deal with. This cold downtrend is taking days to play out so it makes cleaning up the sky of clouds a bit more problematic as disturbances keep moving through.
SATELLITE LOOP
Satellite loop this morning shows clouds moving through and we have some snow showers on the radar scattered around though not much may be actually reaching the ground. I’m thinking we may be fighting this for awhile today before the last upper air disturbance moves through. Clouds with some breaks of sunshine are possible with the scattered snow shower and temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s makes the most sense for today before we drop into the teens and low 20s tonight.
REGIONAL RADAR
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Friday and Saturday will be two cold days with sunshine and highs just into the 30s and the nights that follow will be in the teens and lower 20s. Sunday we see the next cold front approaching. Moisture with this is sparse however I think it is worth to mention the possibility of a period of snow or snow showers that could whiten the ground up in spots or a even a bit more.
The more important snow possibility comes Tuesday with a complex storm heading here from the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. This has the possibility of bringing several inches of accumulating snow before any change to rain takes place. We will discuss that in greater detail later today.
