From Gloom & Doom to Clouds & Showers,

Slow Improvement Over the Weekend

The latest round of gloom & doom weather is going to gradually give way today as the onshore flow relaxes and a cold front approaches from the Ohio Valley. This front was responsible for widespread severe weather and numerous tornadoes across Eastern Missouri and Southwestern Illinois. However the front today is weakening as it moves east and south. We have no severe weather risk here across Eastern Pennsylvania but there is shower risk late today and tonight. In between we will see cloudy skies that might develop into some breaks of sunshine before new clouds take over. Temperatures today will be higher than yesterday and reach the upper 50s and lower 60s.

This cold front is slowing down as it moves eastward so as we head into the weekend we will probably see clouds and showers overnight into Saturday morning with the back edge of the showers along the coast. The risk for showers will be around in the morning but we should see decreasing clouds and increasing sun from west to east in the afternoon. Highs Saturday will be in the 60s.

Drier and slightly cooler air comes in Saturday night and Sunday. Sunday will definitely be the better of the two weekend days as weak high pressure builds in. We anticipate no worse than partly sunny skies and Sunday afternoon highs will probably reach the upper 50s to lower 60s. It might be a bit on the breezy side thanks to northwest winds.

A cold front will be moving southeast from Eastern Canada to Northern New England Sunday night into Monday but this front basically bypasses us and we stay dry and nice for Monday and Tuesday. Then another cold front will approach for the middle of the week and this may have a quick shot of colder air behind it for the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic.

Monday and Tuesday will be sunny or no worse than partly sunny with temperatures in the 60s. Then it seems we could see some showers and possibly some thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday until the front passes. Then a quick shot of spring cold for Thursday into Friday but it will be dry. We are at least getting a break from the endless parade of major rain storms and that break continues next week.
