FLOOD WATCH FOR CENTRAL NEW JERSEY & SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA
A Flood Watch is posted for Central New Jersey and for much of Southeast Pennsylvania for Wednesday. Normally an inch or so of rain wouldn’t be a big deal but some areas are seeing 3 feet of snow melt which is basically adding 3 inches of water into the ground over the last 8 days. It might only take an inch of rain to cause flooding. I would not be surprised to see the flood watch extended a little further north and for Long Island as well but I will leave that to the National Weather Service to take care of.
A cold front is offshore now and we will see colder air move in tonight. After highs in the 50s and 60s today, lows tonight will be in the 20s and 30s. Satellite loop shows skies clearing out and we should start Tuesday with sunny skies and a chilly northeast wind.

Tuesday afternoon and evening some clouds could move in from off the ocean with the onshore flow. Temperatures will top in the 40s and hold there or even rise in to Wednesday morning. Wednesday is the day a strong cold front moves through with rain and thunderstorms with locally heavy rains. The latest GFS rainfall forecast map shows there will be 1 to 2 inches of rain around the area from Southeast Pennsylvania through Southern New England.

Thursday we should dry out unless the front gets hung up offshore for some reason. Friday and Saturday look dry. Then we shift our attention to a complex scenario that is evolving for early next week.
