FLOOD RISK AT HIGH TIDE
COASTAL FLOOD RISK
Coastal flood risk will be created due to strong southerly winds over the coastal regions Sunday and this creates a coastal flood risk at high tide Sunday morning. Northern areas of the New Jersey Shore as well as the areas around New York City, the south shore of Long Island and Coastal Connecticut are all at a minor coastal flood risk. A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for those areas. The flood risk is for tides running 2 feet above normal. This would mean that there could be some minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide. Fortunately this the only tide cycle to worry about. Small Craft Advisories are in effect for the coastal waters.
LONG ISLAND COASTAL WATERS
A DEEPENING STORM SYSTEM OVER THE TENNESSEE VALLEY WILL TRACK NORTHEAST INTO THE OHIO VALLEY TONIGHT AND THEN UP INTO EASTERN CANADA ON SUNDAY. THE LOW WILL BE PRECEDED BY A WARM FRONT LATE TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING…FOLLOWED BY A COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE IN SUNDAY EVENING. HIGH PRESSURE RETURNS BEHIND IT MONDAY…WITH A COLD FRONT MOVING ACROSS THE WATERS TUESDAY EVENING. DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE THEN LIFTS UP INTO THE CANADIAN MARITIMES ON WEDNESDAY WITH HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING EAST FROM THE MID SECTION OF THE COUNTRY.
Tonight E winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt…increasing to 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt late. Seas 6 to 8 ft. Patchy fog this evening. Areas of fog after midnight. A slight chance of rain and drizzle early this evening. A chance of rain and drizzle late this evening and early morning. Rain likely with a slight chance of tstms late. Vsby 1 to 3 nm.
Sun SE winds 20 to 25 kt…becoming S 25 to 30 kt in the afternoon. Gusts up to 35 kt. Seas 6 to 9 ft…building to 8 to 11 ft in the afternoon. Rain. Areas of fog. Vsby 1 to 3 nm.
