Flash Flood Potential Continues Northern NJ to New England Today
Better Weather Tuesday & Wednesday
Yesterday’s heavy rain and flash flooding from Eastern Pennsylvania to Southeast NY was truly devastating in some areas. 10 inch rainfall amounts coming on some incredible hourly rainfall rates washed away roads and flooded many towns. We are still at risk for flash flooding today but the widespread rains will be in New England today.
For areas in Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England it is the utterly saturated conditions from the rains of Sunday. Thunderstorms today will be scattered but some heavier thunderstorms could cause flooding conditions in a very short period of time.
SATELLITE WITH LIGHTNING STRIKES
WEATHER RADAR
Radars and satellite loops show heavy rain movinG its way through Central and Northern New England while the last area on the southern flank over Eastern Long Island and Southern New England is also lifting northward. Gradually the steady rain will be in focused in Central and Northern New England. We will be watching the radar for scattererd thunderstorm development today. Otherwise it will be a very warm and humid day of clouds and some sun and highs will reach into the 80s.
This record breaking weather system will exit the Northeast tonight and that will lead to improving weather conditions for the next couple of days. Skies should clear overnight with lows in the mid 60s to around 70. Dew points will ease somewhat over the next 2 days as the atmosphere is essentially “rained out”.
Sunshine will be the story for Tuesday and Wednesday. We are entering the statistically hottest part of the summer which lasts from mid July to early August so we are looking at highs in the upper 80s to some lower 90s Tuesday and Wednesday.
The flow from Canada continues to remain rather active in the short and medium range which means we wilL continue to see weather systems moving along from west to east. Fronts will be approaching every 3 days or so and the next one is set to approach Thursday. We could see some thunderstorms late Thursday. Once again this front will likely get hung up leading to the chance for thunderstorms Friday and again Saturday.
Not that it rains all the time but there will be thunderstorm and potentially some heavy rain risk. Temperatures Thursday through Saturday will top out in the mid to upper 80s each day and humidity levels will be going up toward the end of the week.
