We did it! 2 to 4 inches of rain fell area wide from Central New Jersey to the Hudson Valley to Southern New England and Long Island. This was the largest 2 day rainfall all year and has cut rainfall deficits down. Rainfall deficits for the year have been reduced to 6 to 8 inches on average from double digits though the deficit at Islip on Long Island remains at 10 inches. Better news is that the pattern going forward will favor more chances for precipitation over the next 10 days.

Weather conditions at the moment are improving though we have clouds to the west and north to deal with a weak disturbances move through. Colder air will gradually filter down from the north and we will see temperatures trend downward to below average over the weekend and into next week. Skies should partially clear overnight and temperatures will drop down into the 30s.

Radars go on a break for a few days. We will see some sunshine Friday with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Saturday we will see sunshine and it will be a little colder with highs in the mid to upper 40s. Sunday we will see sunshine giving way to arriving clouds with highs in the low to mid 40s.

Weather systems from the west and southwest begin their approach with the first one Sunday night into Monday morning. Weather models are at conflict with this system as to whether it survives at all. If it does it could cause a light mix of snow and rain in some areas but this could very well not happen at all. A stronger low coming out of the Gulf States makes a run for the Ohio Valley and that could bring more important precipitation here on Tuesday though here too models are in conflict. We will address those issues later today. At least there will be more chances for drought relief.
