Disgusting Humidity Breaks Today Saturday
Bad Hair Weather Returns Sunday Monday
Oppressive Disgusting Humidity Heat Next Week
We are getting a break in the extreme disgusting humidity & heat today and Saturday but it is coming with a price of cloud cover and showers that are showing up on the radar. We also have a nice breeze from the northeast and east. All of this combines to keep temperatures in the 70s today. The satellite loop shows cloud cover but it also shows dry air from Eastern New England. Some of that dry air will bleed southwestward and this could bring some breaks of sunshine to coastal areas east of NYC during this afternoon.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Even though we have a stalled front to our south, it is not overly impressive in terms of the showers and downpours that have developed on it. One area is moving through New Jersey. Another is in Northeast Pennsylvania. Showers will weaken to some degree on the radar. More folks today than not will avoid seeing showers.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
The weekend looks pretty straight forward with Saturday being a repeat performance of today with clouds, an onshore wind, and some passing showers. Then Sunday the humidity begins to return with warmer temperatures as we head back into the 80s. We could see a shower or thunderstorm running around in the afternoon and evening on Sunday. Again for most it is a rain free day or at least no rain for most of the day.
The big ridge in the east is taking a break this weekend but its position along the east coast remains essentially unchanged. We are subject to the ridge flexing back and forth. As it strengthens we get disgusting humidity heat and temperatures in the 90s. When it ebbs we get a break with an onshore flow and clouds like today and Saturday. That upper ridge will flex again next week.
Starting Monday and lasting probably all of next week (and possibly longer) we will see temperatures rising into the 90s again and humidity that will be oppressive thanks to dew points again in the 70s. This has been the most humid summer in decades here and for many areas from New Jersey to Southern New England. Outside of afternoon pop up thunderstorms, only a beach or pool will provide relief going forward.
