COLDEST AIR OF THE SEASON ARRIVES

EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA TO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND

Major Lake Effect Snow NW Pennsylvania & Western & Northern NY

6ft Or More Possible

We are seeing the coldest air of the season moving into the Eastern US and this is going to trigger a major Lake Effect Snow Event. Lake Effect & Winter Storm Warnings are posted for areas in Western NY into North Central NY as well as NW Pennsylvania and Northeast Ohio. Up to 6 feet of Lake Effect Snow are forecast over the next 72 hours and additional snow is forecast to fall into Tuesday.

While the major lake effect snows are not going to make it southward to Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England, the coldest air of the season is moving in and we see sustained cold lasting through the weekend and all of next week. Several arctic air masses will be coming down from Canada in the short and long range. Today we are going to see sunshine and clouds, a gusty northwest wind and temperatures today will be hovering in the upper 30s and lower 40s at best.

The winds off the shore off Lake Ontario and Lake Erie are already producing areas of snow in lake effect country and that will increase in coverage and intensity overnight and Saturday. Skies will be mainly clear in Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England with lows in the 20s everywhere except near 30 warmer urban areas. Saturday will be a partly sunny and cold day with highs in the 30s to around 40.

Even colder air will come in Saturday night into Sunday morning under mainly clear skies. Lows by Sunday morning will be in the low to mid 20s in most areas and we will see teens in many inland spots north and northwest of the coast. Sunday dayside will be partly sunny and very cold with highs not getting out of the 30s just about everywhere. This is 10 or more degrees lower than the average high for November 30th.

This cold weather pattern continues next week with not much of a rebound in temperatures through at least Tuesday. High pressure will be cover the Eastern US and the cold will extend all the way down to Northern Florida. In the meantime we see sunshine for Monday with most highs in the 30s to around 40. Lake effect snows will continue into Tuesday.

Tuesday we will have sunshine and very cold conditions after yet another night of lows in the 20s. Highs will again be only in the 30s. Low pressure will move across Southern Canada with a trailing arctic cold front and this will bring clouds Wednesday and some rain or snow showers Wednesday night into Thursday. Then a second arctic front arrives next weekend and this is a stronger front. Some snow or rain showers are possible ahead of it followed by another blast of arctic air next Sunday. It will likely bring another round of major Lake Effect Snows later next weekend and even colder air to much of the Eastern US. This is a very wintry pattern that has set up for early December and it could last for awhile so get used to the cold.
