Cold Front Heading East Brings Coldest Air of the Season So Far This Week

Our weekend continues to play along according to plan with what should be a dry Sunday with any showers holding off until overnight into Monday morning. There are some patchy clouds to the west and south rolling along on the satellite loop but I think that much of today will be no worse than partly sunny. Clouds will probably increase some during the afternoon from southwest to northeast as a little ripple on the front moves northeastward. Temperatures this afternoon in Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England will be in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees for highs.

WEATHER RADAR

The radar is showing what appears to be some very light precipitation aloft in the blue with hardly any of this reaching the ground but we will probably see an area of rain develop late today across Tenneesee and Virginia and that will move northeast tonight, clipping areas from New Jersey to Southern New England and Long Island with a few showers into Monday morning.

Most lows tonight will be in the mid 40s to lower 50s. The front will pass through and then hang offshore waiting for the strong upper trough to swing eastward from the Great Lakes. Monday dayside should be mostly dry with clouds and around and highs into the 60s.

The upper trough will generate a few showers Monday night and then we will see the colder air moving into the east. Tuesday highs will be in the low to mid 50s with a mix of sun and clouds. They we head down to the 30s to near 40 Wednesday morning. Some inland lows will be close to the freezing mark so it is possible that some areas away from warmer urban centers and the coast will see their first freezes either Wednesday morning or Thursday morning.

As for the dayside Wednesday and Thursday we will see sunshine. However temperatures will only top out between 50 and 50 both days with some colder areas north and west of the coast probably not getting much above 50. We will see the high settle into the Southeast Friday and that should begin a moderation. Sunshine Friday will take highs back to the upper 50s to near 60. Other than whatever showers occur tonight and again Monday night, the week will be dry. In fact we will probably be dry into early next week before the next cold front and the next chance for any showers. No major storms and no tropical storms or hurricanes are on the horizon and we don’t expect to see anything of consequence anytime soon.
