Clouds Linger Over Long Island Another Upper Air Disturbance Tuesday

For Long Islanders, it is safe to assume that the end of spring can’t come fast enough. Clouds lingered all day long as the satellite picture showed late this afternoon. Temperatures stayed in the 50s all day. We should see some partial clearing overnight but another upper trough is to our north and that is set to move southeastward into the Northeast on Tuesday. Temperatures overnight should bottom in the mid to upper 40s.

On to Tuesday which will probably start with some sun but as the upper trough drops southeastward clouds will increase. During the afternoon and evening as the upper trough passes through a few scattered showers can’t be ruled out. Highs will reach the lower 60s but the clouds will cap any upside.

Wednesday we will start to see high pressure begin to build in from the Midwest as low pressure strengthens in the Canadian Maritime Provinces. A stalled frontal boundary to the south will produce rain in the Carolinas and Southern Virginia. Other than some northern fringe high clouds we should be no worse than partly sunny on Wednesday with a northwest breeze. We should see temperatures push up into a range of 60 to 65 with 50s over the East End.

Thursday should be the best day of the week for Long Island with sunny skies and temperatures reaching 65 to 70 as that big high to the west pushes east. There is still a northwest flow overhead and on Friday and Saturday even though the high settles overhead, there will be some weak upper air disturbances moving through producing a few clouds and perhaps a passing shower can’t be ruled out. In between all this skies will be partly sunny both days with highs in the mid 60s to perhaps near 70. Sunday we will be partly sunny as it looks right now but again, weak upper air disturbances going by could trigger a passing shower. A better chance for rain could come next Monday.
