Clouds Around Today Waves of Showers Thunderstorms Overnight &
Through The Weekend & Into Next Week
We are in a bit of a gloom and doom pattern but it is not all gloom and doom. Lots of clouds are around today but on the satellite view you can see the dry air in Upstate NY and Northern New England. This is fighting the clouds and moisture that are coming up from the south. Rain from overnight fell apart as it moved into that dry air but there are patches of light rain that is not being picked up by the radar. Between now and Sunday morning rainfall amounts will be around an inch or so with a little more in some places and a little less than others.
Otherwise it looks like mostly a gray day with perhaps a poke or two of sun in some places. The northeast wind is in control today and that plus the cloud cover likely keeps temperatures mostly in the 60s. It is a bit of an upside down type of day where to the north temperatures will likely be a little warmer than temperatures to the south due to the extent of cloud cover.

The upper air storm that is lingering in the Tennessee Valley will begin to move to the northeast over the next few days. This will probably bring up some rain tonight into Friday morning and then look for areas of showers and thunderstorms Friday. There will be some dry periods in between. Winds will start to bend around to the south and that should allow temperatures to rise to the 70s. There could also be one or two heavier thunderstorms in the mix.
On to the weekend where the risk for showers and some thunderstorms will be there for Saturday and Sunday but again it is not a continuous rain by any means and there should be some dry periods in between. The upper air storm will beging to move slowly across the northeast and it will trigger development of showers and thunderstorms, mainly from late morning through the early evening.
Conditions over the weekend will turn be very humid as dew points rise and temperatures will rise as well. Highs should reach into the 80s away from the ocean both Saturday and Sunday making for rather uncomfortable conditions. It is really difficult to say which weekend day will be better since both days will have showers and thunderstorms running around so we will be especially radar dependant this weekend. Another upper trough drops into the Eastern US early next week which will bring a solid chance for widespread showers and some thunderstorms Monday and possibly again Tuesday before we get a shot at a completely dry day next Wednesday. Over the the course of the next 6 days most of the area could see 2 to 3 inches of rain when you add it all together and that should ease dry conditions that exist over much of Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England.
