Clouds Around Leftover Rain East of NYC, Nice Friday &
More Optimism for the Weekend
Today is going to be a bit of a struggle weather wise. Low pressure sits just offshore and it has been sending rain into Southern & Southeastern New England as well as Long Island overnight. Some of that rain backed westward to about NYC. As we go through the day, the low offshore is going to start moving slowly southeastward. While this brings the rain to a gradual end (in areas where it is raining), it does leave much of Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England in lots of clouds, an onshore northeast flow, and temperatures that for the most part will be hovering in the low to middle 60s all day long.

We will see improvement overnight as skies start to clear out from west to east but again this will be a slow process. Most lows will be in the 50s. Friday could actually turn out to be a decent weather day with some sunshine and highs mostly in the 60s. A few warm spots will likely approach 70 degrees.
We have potentially some good news as far as the weekend is concerned. We have another storm developing in the Southern Plains today. This system will bring severe weather risks and heavy rain today from Texas to Alabama. This low is going to move east across the Lower Ohio & Tennessee Valley and emerge near the North Carolina coast over the weekend.
The track of this low is going to be further so be further south this time around as the northern jet stream and High pressure to the northeast suppress this system. While it seems that most if not all of the rain with this system stays well south of Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England, we are still left with an onshore flow for both Saturday and Sunday.
There should be enough dry air however to allow for clouds to break up and we should see some sunshine, especially for areas inland. The same will hold for Sunday. Cloudy to partly sunny I think is the best way to describe the weekend and we feel good about leaving rain out of the forecast at this point. Highs both Saturday and Sunday will be in the 60s. More good news is that it looks like Monday and Tuesday of next week will be nice dry days.
