Chilly Unstable Air Next Few Days Rain Risks Late Week & Weekend

Looking at the satellite loop we can see the rotation around a large upper air storm in Eastern Canada continues. This puts us in a cold and somewhat unstable air mass today and Tuesday. Days start off with sunshine and then we see instability clouds develop especially inland. Temperatures should be topping out in the mid 60s this time of year and we will be falling short today with highs just in the middle to upper 50s in most places. Some warm spots might approach 60 degrees. There could be a few scattered showers inland this afternoon with the unstable air mass.

We see some showers on the radar scattered around and this is the risk today. Some of you could see some sprinkles or showers but they shouldn’t last long while other might not see much of anything. Tonight we will have clouds and some partial clearing of skies. Lows will be in the upper 30s inland and low to mid 40s coast and warmer urban areas. Tuesday looks like a repeat of today with clouds and some sun along with the risk of a passing shower. Highs will be in the mid 50s to lower 60s.

Things may stabilize a bit on Wednesday as we find ourselves less under the influence of the colder flow from Canada and temperatures moderate. Wednesday may likely be the best weather day of the week. Sunshine should dominate with just a few clouds. Highs Wednesday will be in the low to mid 60s with local sea breezes along south and east facing shorelines.

Beginning Thursday we start to deal with the curse of the onshore flow. High pressure builds into New England and a northeast takes hold. Across the Southern US we see the first of two storm systems. This one may wind up moving more east than north which will bring rain close Thursday night into Friday. Whether the rain makes it far enough north, we will certainly be in lots of clouds both Thursday and Friday with highs both days in the 50s.

Over the weekend energy will pile into a strong upper air storm in the Great Lakes and that likely causes a strong storm to develop with a powerful cold front that will sweep through the Eastern US with heavy rain. This likely happens Sunday. Saturday going into this we will be cloudy with some light rain or drizzle with highs in the 50s and then a windswept rain and a few thunderstorms are likely Sunday.
