Back to Gloom And Doom Rain Thursday Into Friday Wet Snow Inland

We will squeeze out part of this Wednesday since it has been clear overnight for most of the area. Clouds are starting to develop to the west and south and we will see those clouds increase today. Over the Great Lakes sits a very large upper air storm that is about to dig southeastward and start the process of developing a low in North Carolina. So we will call it partly sunny to start with increasing clouds as the day wears on. There could be some showers scattered around late today and this evening. Temperatures today will be mostly in the 60s.

Then things go downhill overnight with cloudy skies and rain gradually overspreading the area however location will mean everything here in terms of precipitation type amount and duration. The upper air storm is tracking across Eastern Pennsylvania north of Philadelphia and South of NYC. This makes Thursday and cloudy miserable day as temperatures settle in the 40s north and east of NYC and 50s south and west.

Rain will be heavier north and east of the low track. Those areas from Northern New Jersey and Northeastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England could see an inch or more of rain before this is all done later  Friday.

Meanwhile to the south of the upper low track in Southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey as well as points southward, we will see lots of clouds and a few showers limiting rainfall amounts to a quarter to a third of an inch. In some cases rainfall amounts will be even less.

As for snow that will occur north of the upper low track and we continue to be a little skeptical regarding snow amounts. We still think that the heaviest snow will be at levels above 1500 feet and are not likely to reach valley floors. Several to 6 inches are possible in the mountains of Western Massachusetts and Vermont. Also some snow is possible as far south as the Catskills and into the higher elevations of Northeastern Pennsylvania.  Friday sees the low off the coast of Southern New England with snow and rain continuing to the north of the low track. Clouds will be stubborn all day and there could be some leftover light rain or drizzle. Temperatures will be in the 40s to near 50 for most of the area. We will see some sunshine return on Saturday but there will be clouds around as well. Highs will be in the mid 50s to near 60. Sunday look for clouds and some breaks of sun along with the chance for a passing shower. Highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
