Back to Dry Weather & Sunshine But It Does Turn Colder Into Wednesday

Last night’s rainfall didn’t amount to much and barely made a dent in the 7 to 8 inch deficit on the books since September 1st. At least most stations in Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England got measurable rain (.01 inch or higher) which breaks the dry streaks that at some places went on for 7 weeks or more. Now we see the return of drier air today on northwest winds and decreasing clouds/increasing sunshine, a freshenging northwest wind, and temperatures that will be topping in the mid to upper 60s.

As radars and satellite loops show all the moisture moving eastward and well offshore, skies tonight will be clear and lows by Tuesday morning will be in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Tuesday sees cooler air spreading southward out of building high pressure in Upstate NY and New England. We will have sunshine and a north wind. Most highs Tuesday will be in the mid to upper 50s.

The trend to colder temperatures will continue Tuesday night under clear skies and and a north northeast wind which typically in a set up like this with a high to the north brings down cold air. By Wednesday morning we will see many inland lows in the 20s while coast and warmer urban locations will be down in the low to mid 30s by daybreak.

Wednesday will be the coolest day of the week and probably the coolest day since late spring. High pressure lodges in New England with a north northeast wind. We will see a good deal of sunshine but temperatures area going to have a tough time. Highs will be in the upper 40s to perhaps near 50 in some places.

Another front and low pressure will approach Thursday but there is storminess out in the Atlantic and especially near Atlantic Canada where an ocean storm will throw some moisture and some ice and snow into New Brunswick Canada and perhaps even into rain. This effectively forces the next system to the southeast and any rain that is with that low and front likely weakens and passes mostly to the south.

We will likely see at least some clouds around Thursday with highs mostly in the low to mid 50s. Friday we will finish the work week with clouds and sun with highs in the 50s. The weekend is looking dry and seasonal temperature wise. Storminess will shift to the Western US again and there is no rain in the forecast in the Northeast for the next 7 days. Also the tropics are quiet but we may yet see another tropical storm develop in the Caribbean next week
