Chilly Air Arrives & A Cold Night Into Wednesday Morning
Not Much If Any Rain In Sight
Strong high pressure is building into the Northeast and we are seeing chilly air being funneled southward on northerly winds. Today will be a day of sunshine with some passing clouds. However temperatures are going to struggle today with most highs in the 50s to around 60 in the warmest locations. The radars are quiet today and even colder air will be funneled southward on north northeast winds tonight. Gusty winds and very dry air also mean we have elevated wild fire risk for much of Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. Red Flag warnings are up for the Hudson Valley, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts
The surface high is set up in a way that we see colder air coming southward from Eastern and Northeastern Canada. In the winter time with snow cover this would be a very cold night indeed but it is not winter and we don’t have snow cover anywhere. Nonetheless under clear skies tonight most inland lows will be in the mid to upper 20s. Warmer urban and coastal locations will be in the low to middle 30s by daybreak Wednesday.

Wednesday is shaping up to be a sunny but very cool day with temperatures probably no higher than the upper 40s and lower 50s. You have to go back to last May for a day as chilly as this and it is in start contrast to the record warm temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s we saw last week.
Low pressure is going to develop in the Central Plains and head to the Great Lakes with an area of rain ahead of a cold front pushing east through the Mississippi Valley. The problem is that we have a developing storm south of Atlantic Canada that is backing northwestward and effectively blocking this low from moving east. As it does so the low and its area of rain with the weather front will weaken and fall apart by the time it reaches the East Coast. Whatever rain with this system that is left will wind up going mostly to the south.
There could be a little rain for areas in Central and South Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania but it won’t be much. North of there no rain is forecast. Either way Thursday is going to be a raw type of day with lots of clouds and a northeast wind. Highs will be just in the 50s. If there is rain to the south Thursday, it will generally be a tenth of an inch or less.
Weak low pressure moves offshore Thursday night into Friday morning leaving Friday with leftover clouds and temperatures in the 50s. Saturday and Sunday will be dry with some sunshine both days and highs both days will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s. The overall pattern seems to be changing where we are not going to get big warmups to record highs but instead temperatures will be more seasonal next week. However we still don’t see a break in the dry conditions and no rain is forecast at least into early next week.
