Another Day of Low Humidity, Changes Arrive Thursday,

Possible Severe Weather Risk Friday

Today is the 4th day in a row of sunshine and low humidity. The dry air mass from Canada has taken almost a week to move from the Plains to the East Coast and it sits overhead today. The satellite loop shows mostly clear skies across the Eastern US and the radars are about as silent as they can be for this time of year. Sunshine today will take highs to the upper 70s and lower 80s with dew points in the low to mid 50s. It is simply as nice and as pleasant as it can be this time of year. Tonight will be another night of clear skies with lows in the 50s inland and the low to mid 60s along the coast and warmer urban locations.

Tonight will be another night of clear skies with lows in the 50s inland and the low to mid 60s along the coast and warmer urban locations. Thursday begins what will be a slow process of increasing dew points and a slight increase in temperatures. Southeast winds will bring the humidity up but it won’t be going to anything oppressive. However you may notice the difference not so much early in the day but late in the day. Skies should be partly sunny. Highs will reach the low and middle 80s.

There is the outside chance we could see a shower or thunderstorm late Thursday afternoon and evening but if one happens it should be widely scattered and well inland. The chances for thunderstorms however will increase Friday as a cold front approaches along with an upper trough.

Friday will be the one day that I would describe as very warm and humid to the point where it is uncomfortable. There might be some breaks of sunshine but that should bubble up thunderstorms especially during the afternoon and evening. We do have some early severe weather risk being indicated by the Storm Prediction Center from Northeast Pennsylvania to the Catskills, the Hudso Valley north of Route 84 and parts of West Central New England. We may see this area of risk get expanded a bit between now and Friday

Once these thunderstorms play through it leads to what will be a nice weekend. Saturday will start on the humid side but we will see dry air begin to spread into the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic during Saturday afternoon and evening. The solid push of drier air moves in for Sunday. This dry air mass will only extend south to Maryland and Northern Delaware this time around.

Also the GFS seems to be in a rush to move the dry air out from south to north later Sunday and I think this is too fast. Both Saturday and Sunday should be days with sunshine dominates much of the day other than early clouds Saturday and late clouds Sunday. Saturday highs will be mostly in the low 80s and Sunday highs will be in the low to middle 80s.

The next cold front and the next round of humidity and thunderstorm risk will come Monday. Highs will be in the 80s and I think we could see severe weather risk with this system as it does appear to be vigorous. Next week will be a week of cold fronts with quick shots of dry air in between.
