Another Break in Humidity Severe Weather Risk Returns Monday
The weekend is here and we are going to enjoy two mostly dry days. Today (Saturday) is the better of th two weekend days as yesterday’ cold front have moved offshore. This leaves us with a drier air mass with lower humdity and sunshine. Dew points however will take their time dropping off today but they should eventually settle in the upper 50s and lower 60s which is lower than yesterday.
Lower humidity with this air mass won’t make it much further south than Southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. No showers are forecast today and this will be the better of the two weekend days. Skies will be clear tonight across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. Most lows will be in the 60s with 50s in cool spots inland.
Sunday we will see sunshine for the start of the day but humidity will begin to rise from south to north as the day wears on and we wil likley see clouds arrive as well. Highs will reach the middle to a few upper 80s and by the end of the day it will be more uncomfortable. A warm front will be approaching and that could set off some showers or a thunderstorm Sunday night as tropical air moves in for Monday.

Monday is setting up to be a very warm and very humid day. We also have a cold front that will be moving eastward. Low pressure comes out of the Central Plains and moves across the Great Lakes. This is a rather vigorous system for this time of year and the front set off showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening over a rather large area in the Eastern US.
The cold front is being supported by a strengthening upper trough that will be moving across the Eastern Great Lakes and it seems as if we have a set up for severe weather risk Monday. The Storm Prediction Center is indicating a “slight” risk for severe weather covering a large area of geography from the Gulf States northeastward to Southern New England.
Monday will be a very warm and very uncomfortable day especially south of NYC where dew points will reach into the 70s and highs will reach the mid to upper 80s. North of NYC it will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s as a warm front struggles to move northward. This sets up a “warm sector” where the atmosphere will be very unstable and that will set off thunderstorms as the gfs loop above shows us.
Tuesday still leaves us rather warm and humid with the risk for a thunderstorm as the upper trough passes through. Lower humidity will arrive for a short stay Wednesday with sunshine before it comes back Thursday along with another cold front at the end of the week. Highs most days this week will be in the 80s.
