Winter Weather Advisory Posted NW NJ & Hudson Valley
Winter Weather Advisory is posted tonight for inland areas of our region. They include the Lower Hudson Valley north of Route 84, west to Orange County, Western Passaic and Sussex Counties in Northwest New Jersey, Southeastern Connecticut north of the Merritt Parkway and Northeastern most Pennsylvania. The threat is for a period of freezing rain and freezing drizzle.
There is cold air that is draining southwestward from Northern New England and it could bring temperatures to under 32 overnight in these areas. The ground is cold enough with the nights this week of temperatures in the single digits. Some freezing on surfaces is possible in these areas with ice accretion generally under a tenth of an inch. The main threat time would be from about midnight until about 8 am Saturday morning.
Radar shows rain beginning to advance from the southwest. Much of this is forecast to weaken but enough of it will survive that it could create some issues in these areas. Temperatures should slowly rise above freezing later Saturday morning and there will not be any problems during the day Saturday. Heavy rain is forecast for later Saturday night and Sunday. Check the National Weather Service snow and ice forecast maps below for your specific area.
