Winter Weather Advisory Eastern Pennsylvania New Jersey
Additional Advisories NYC Long Island Later Today
Cold air remains in place today though temperatures will be a little higher this afternoon as we enjoy a day of sunshine giving way to arriving clouds. There is an upper air disturbance moving across Upstate NY and New England today with an area of snow showers moving eastward. The southern edge will still pass well to the north so except for areas north of Route 84 in New York and New England, I don’t think it was worth mentioning in the general outlook. Highs toda will be in the upper 20s tow lower 30s.

Winter Weather Advisories are posted for Friday for Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey and additional Winter Weather Advisories will be posted for the counties of Northeast New Jersey. NYC, the Lower Hudson Valley, Long Island and portions of Southern New England later today. This will be also for during the day Friday as low pressure develops offshore and an upper trough strengthens and slides southeastward from the Great Lakes.
There isn’t alot of upside with this weather system, however I think there is a possibility of some localized upside surprises in a few places. I think the best chance for that happening would be in portions of Central New Jersey into Eastern Pennsylvania, and possibly for parts of Long Island. In general this looks to be a 2 to 3 inch snowfall for most places but in areas where there might be an upside surprise, some 4 inch or higher amounts could occur.
Clouds will increase tonight an some snow will start to show up on local radars in the hours before daybreak. Most lows will be in the upper teens to mid 20s. Snow develops Friday morning from west to east and conitnues into Friday evening, ending from west to east. While it is snowing, temperatures will be mostly in the 20s to around 30. Winds from the northeast will pick up a bit as the day wears on but wind is not a big issues with this system
Winds will increase Friday night from the north behind the low as another arctic high builds in. Northerly winds will bring in the arctic air and temperatures will drop to the low and mid teens by Saturday morning with skies clearing. Saturday will be a very cold day with ineffective sunshine, gusty winds and highs mostly in the upper teens and lower 20s. Another cold night follows Saturday night. Sunday we should see some moderating in temperatures with sunnshine and highs back to the upper 20s and lower 30s. The moderation in temperatures continues next week as arctic air retreats into Canada and the flow in the upper atmostphere relaxes across much of the US.
