Spring Snow Storm Upstate NE NY New England
The first winter storm warning notices have gone up for the obvious elevated areas in upstate NY and New England. This is definitely going to be elevation driven here so somebody is going to get a good solid heavy wet snowfall particularly north of the MASS Pike (I-90) northward into Vermont and New Hampshire. Also elevated areas in Northeastern NY could do well with this on the order of a foot plus. Weather models continue to struggle with how far south the southern flank of the wet snow/sleet will be. Most of the American models are way to aggressive way to far south. I think the European and Canadian models have the best approach as to how the snow shield will be.
I don’t think the accumulating snow makes it any further south than the north side of Route 84. Northern Connecticut and perhaps elevated areas of Northern Dutchess County in NY State northward is where I think the southern edge of any accumulating snow will be at this point. This is going to be a nice early spring snowstorm for skiers looking to push the season for an additional few days. Snow melt this time of year takes place quickly in ski country with the increasing sun angle.
As for just about everyone within 100 or so miles of the coast it will be a cold soaking rain and it will be on the order of 1 to 2 inches worth with the Canadian model showing pockets of 2 inches of liquid plus. Since I’m favoring their snow depiction, I’m going to favor their rainfall forecast as well. Notice the 2 inches plus of liquid forecast to the north where it will be a heavy wet snow for sure.
