Weekend Brings Rain or Showers With Low & Cold Front Nice Warm Sunday
We have arrived at Friday ahead of the weekend in what was a rather strange weather week. The midweek shot of cold air and frosty conditions is long gone. We do have an onshore flow and that will hold temperatures down a bit. Expect filtered sunshine veiled in high clouds and yes some smoke from the Canada wildfires. We have a cold front lining up to the west that is moving east. We also have a low developing off the North Carolina coast that will be wobbling its way northward. At least today we have no rain issues and highs will range from the 60s along the coast to lower 70s inland. You can thank the south southeast wind for that. No rain is in the cards today or for much of tonight.

WEATHER RADAR
Clouds will increase tonight as attention first focuses on the coastal low off the North Carolina coast. This isn’t really much of a system but it will have a concentrated ball of rain that will be moving northward. This will likely bring rain to coastal New Jersey, NYC, Long Island and Southern New England Saturday morning into the early afternoon.
Notice on the loop that there is a sharp gap between the western edge of the coastal low rain area and the showers to the west with the approaching cold front. This means that some areas from the Hudson Valley (west of the Hudson? southwest across New Jersey into Eastern Pennsylvania may not see much rain at all until the cold front arrives in the afternoon and evening with a few showers.
This is why we have rainfall amounts of a half inch to an inch or more over Southern New England to Long Island and points east and northeast, while just to the west of NYC and the Garden State Parkway in NJ, amounts drop off substanitially. Unless the coastal system passes closer to the coast or if the radars are suddenly surprisingly robust, we don’t see a whole lot of upside here.
When it’s not rain we will have lots of clouds around and high temperatures will be in the upper 60s along the coast to lower and even a few middle 70s inland depending on whether the sun could potentially break the through the clouds in some places inland. The front will pass offshore Saturday night. Any showers will end and skies will clear out for Sunday.
Next week looks to be dry through at least Thursday with no well weather issues. Higher pressure will be to the north and east and this will set up an onshore flow for much of the week, though it appears at least through Wednesday we won’t have issues with clouds in that flow. Monday highs will be in the 70s again while Tuesday highs will be in the upper 60s along the coast and lower to a few mid 70s inland. Both days will feature sunshine.
