Week Ahead Unsettled As Strong Blocking Pattern Develops Wet Weather Ahead
Yesterday’s cold front has moved well offshore and we have lots of dry air that has moved into the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. We are seeing some moisture moving off the Great Lakes but it isn’t producing much in the way of lake effect and we expect those clouds to stay mostly inland and patchy. This leaves us with a mainly sunny day and afternoon highs will be in the chilly low to mid 40s with no other weather issues. A cold clear night lies ahead with Monday morning lows in the 20s except for lower 30s in warmer urban settings.

WEATHER RADAR
Monday is probably going to be the last dry day and the last nice day this week because we have a strong blocking pattern developing in the North Atlantic. This will displace the jet stream further south which allows a series of storm systems to head east and northeast. Monday however will be sunny for much if not all of the day and highs will reach the mid to upper 40s.
Tuesday will begin a run of weather systems coming into the Eastern US. This first system is basically a cold front that moves slowly southeast from the Great Lakes. Rain or showers will develop during Tuesday and they will likely last into at least part of Wednesday. Being on the warm side of the cold front means that highs Tuesday will be in the mid to upper 50s.
This front will eventually pass through and move southward and probably stall out across the Southern Mid Atlantic to the Southern Plains where another wave develops and moves along it. Rain should end early on Wednesday but lots of clouds will remain. Highs will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s before it starts to turn colder.
Another wave of low pressure will come out of the Southern Plains and head northeastward but because of the block, we will see this low try to head toward the Ohio Valley and be forced east and southeast off the New Jersey/Delaware coast late in the week. Weather models are utterly all over the place with this as each model is having a difficult time handling the blocking pattern. For now we will go for a cold rain developing later Thursday into Friday. More storminess lies ahead as the blocking pattern will hold firm in the longer term.
