Weather Conditions Slowly Improve Next Few Days
Overnight we saw some areas of showers and thunderstorms move through and now we wait for the passage of a cold front later today. There could be another shower or thunderstorm in some (but not all) spots later today but we expect a mix of sun and clouds in between all this. The GOES 16 satellite picture this morning shows some breaks in the cloud cover developing just inland of the coast and we should this trend spread across the area today. It is warm and humid this morning and highs this afternoon will reach into the 80s in most places. We will get through whatever scattered shower or thunderstorm occurs. We are not anticipating any severe weather risk today.

Regional radar shows the overnight weather system to the northeast where we see rain in Northeast Ne England as well as offshore Southeastern New England. To the west some small clusters of showers are moving across Southern Pennsylvania and Maryland. Keep an eye across Northern Pennsylvania northeastward into NY where some scattered showers and possible thunderstorms could form that wind up swinging eastward and through our area this afternoon

Once the cold front passes we are looking for skies to at least partially clear tonight with most lows in the 50s except lower 60s in the warmer urban centers and along the coast. Friday high pressure from Southeastern Canada builds southward which will push the cloud line further south into the Middle Atlantic States. We should be mostly sunny from Northern Pennsylvania and Northern New Jersey northward and partly sunny south of there. Highs will be in the mid 70s to lower 80s.
Let’s kick off the weekend with sunshine for Saturday High pressure to the north will act as a weight holding all the rain you see across the South Atlantic states west into the Tennessee and lower Ohio Valley. Temperatures will be in the mid 70s coast to lower 80s well inland thanks to a dry onshore wind.
Sunday brings some issues with clouds as the high moves well off the New England coast. The upper ridge in the East seems to be breaking down a bit faster than earlier modeled but the rain still has trouble making it much further north than Maryland and Delaware. Lets call it sunshine giving way to arriving clouds with most highs in the 70s. All of that rain tries to lift northward but it will do so slowly. We will likely get into rain at some point on Monday from south to north. Tuesday showers and downpours along with a few thunderstorms are likely until a cold front passes. Highs Monday and Tuesday will be in the 70s.
We have a very active jet stream pattern setting up for next week as another trough follows the lead system for later next week. This could bring another round of clouds and rain later next week as the Tuesday front moves through stalls and another wave moves along it. It could be a wet week overall for the Northeast & Middle Atlantic States and the Southeast US with rainfall amounts of several inches or more in some places.
While we are under this pattern we can say that hot weather is not going to happen and temperatures will likely stay close to June averages right through the next 7 days.
