Warm Into Friday Showers Thunderstorms Friday Night Into Saturday

A Colder Pattern Begins Sunday

Yesterday we reached highs in the low to mid 80s in most places except right along the shore. Today we will have a repeat performance. Not much has changed since yesterday. High pressure remains anchored in the Eastern US and the next cold front is just two days away. This leaves us with another day of sunshine and very warm temperatures with highs reaching the low and middle 80s. The wind will be south or south southeast today and that will keep temperatures from going much higher. The radars are nice and quiet so rain is not an issue. Temperatures along the shore will be in the 70s to near 80 with the ocean wind. Humidity levels are high with dew points in the low to mid 60s making for some discomfort.

The longer nights mean for some patchy fog developing overnight in inland valleys and some coastal areas. Most lows will be in the 60s. Thursday we will have more of a southeast wind and that will hold temperatures back. There may be more clouds around to mix in with sunshine. Highs Thursday will be in the mid 70s to around 80 degrees and the dew points will remain on the high side.

Friday begins a round a changes that will snap the warm weather pattern and we will revert to an authentic autumn pattern over the weekend. A cold front that is moving very slowly eastward today and Thursday will start moving faster Friday. There might be some scattered showers during the day Friday in a warm humid flow with highs in the 70s. Then showers will become more numerous Friday night and Saturday.

As the front moves eastward faster we also have low pressure developing well east of the North Carolina and to the east of that, Tropical Storm Philippe will be passing close to Bermuda. The low offshore is non tropical and it will move northward, absorbing Philippe and merging with the frontal system that is moving offshore Saturday. This brings stronger winds and heavier rain to Eastern New England and Atlantic Canada. Our area does not have to deal with that issue. Showers will come to end during Saturday from west to east but it may take most of the day to complete the process.

This system will develop into a strong storm in Eastern Canada over the weekend. It will bring down much cooler air on gusty northwest winds later Saturday and Sunday. In fact we could see some snow in the higher elevations of Upstate NY Sunday as the low deepens and colder air sweeps in. Saturday temperatures will be in flux with highs reached early in the day and then temperatures easing as the day wears on.

Sunday will be windy and much colder. We can forget about the 80s and we will settle into a pattern of below average temperatures. Clouds and some sun will be the forecast for Sunday with more clouds inland. There may be the chance for an isolated shower. Sunday will be one of those cool blustery autumn days where leaves are flying around and there is a sense of colder days head. Sunday highs will be just in the 50s to around 60 degrees at best.

Next week we will see cooler than average temperatures all week long. There will be a re-enforcement of the cooler air coming in around mid week as another cold front passes through with showers perhaps late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Later next week we could see a stronger system approach toward the end of the week or the weekend.
