Tropical Storm Michael is now moving into Virginia this evening and heading toward the Virginia Coast tonight. Tropical Storm Conditions continue along the Carolina coast line and we have seen heavy rains and flash flooding. The circulation of Tropical Storm Michael is evident on both the satellite loop above and the radar loop below.  Flash Flooding has occurred in interior North Carolina and we have a large area of Virginia and North Carolina under a tornado watch at the moment.

REGIONAL RADAR

Radar is also showing rains from an approaching cold front and there have been some heavy downpours so far today in Northwest New Jersey, Northeastern Pennsylvania northeastward into the Hudson Valley and Southern New England. There hasn’t been much rain in Central and Southern New Jersey so far but those areas will see rain filling in tonight as the front presses in and Michael makes its way toward the coast.

Flash Flood Watches continue into the overnight as we will be seeing more downpours and some of the rain will be heavy. Friday morning Tropical Storm Michael will be offshore east of the Delaware coast moving away to the northeast. Rains will be ending tomorrow morning from west to east rather quickly and weather conditions will improve afterwards with decreasing clouds and increasing sun Friday afternoon.

There is no important change in the outlook for Tropical Storm Michael and what happens afterwards. Very cool air is poised to move in for the weekend. Temperatures will hold in the upper 60s and lower 70s overnight and then settle there during the day on Friday. By Saturday morning we will be down in the 40s to near 50. An upper air disturbance will bring a couple of showers early Saturday morning before some sunshine develops. The weekend will be quite cool. Saturday temperatures will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Sunday morning will the coolest morning we’ve seen around here since last spring!

michael

Sunday morning lows will be in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Sunday should feature sunshine with highs just in the 50s to near 60. Next week brings more fronts and more shots of cooler air. We could see some showers on Monday as another front approaches. The middle of next week will depend on how that front behaves after it passes. For now we will lean dry and cool for Tuesday and Wednesday.
