Severe Weather Fizzles August Dog Days Get Underway Next Several Days Long Island was on the edge of what looked like another solid severe weather threat today but the ocean to a certain extent took care of that. Prior severe weather events were preceded by a big warm up during the day with very warm to borderline hot conditions with high dew points. Instead the warm front never got even close and settled well to our south across Virginia to the Delmarva peninsula. We got some rain out of it today but for the most part it is done. We have a lot of clouds around as the satellite view shows. Dry air has moved into Northern New York while we sit in rather humid conditions here overnight and into Wednesday. SATELLITE REGIONAL RADAR Regional radar shows the rain from earlier has moved out to the east. There is still some rain and a few heavier downpours in South Jersey and offshore but all of that is moving east and not north. The severe weather is setting up across Southern Virginia and North Carolina. LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY This frontal boundary moving through heads offshore and stalls out. The atmosphere will come to a grinding halt over the next several days with the front stalled to the south and east and dry air to the north. I think this puts us in clouds with some breaks of sun. An odd pop up shower or thunderstorm Wednesday is not impossible though I think the chances are low. Highs will be in the upper 70s to a few lower 80s with the humidity on the high side. Thursday and Friday will be pretty much the same story. There is a bit of dry air that could come in for awhile Wednesday night into part of Thursday before the humidity comes up a bit. Look for sunshine and clouds both days. Perhaps there could be a pop up shower or thunderstorm on Friday. Highs both days will be in the upper 70s to around or just over 80.  There isn't much going on as far as the weekend is concerned. It looks like it will be a warmer weekend with highs heading into at least the low and middle 80s. There is the chance for a pop up shower or thunderstorm on Saturday; not so much on Sunday. Otherwise it will be a mix of sun and clouds and typical August dog days. The nights will be warm and humid with lows in the mid 60s to near 70. The next cold front will arrive late Monday with a chance for showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the middle to upper 80s.
