Storm System Brings Long Island Showery Rains Friday & Saturday
Windy Colder Sunday
This will be the 6th weekend in the last 7 that Long Island will see rain on at least one of the two weekend days. Rainfall amounts should be on the order of three quarters of an inch to an inch and a quarter. It is spread out over 2 days so this should not cause any flooding issues. In the meantime today we are seeing lots of sunshine but sateliite loops show high clouds to the west ahead of a cold front. Also note the clouds to the south in Eastern North Carolina and offshore. This is associated with weak low pressure that is developing there and this low will move northward tonight. In the meantime this afternoon highs should reach the mid 60s to around 70 degrees in the warmest inland locations. Radars are nice and quiet for the time being.
SATELLITE
WEATHER RADAR
Clouds will increase tonight as a southerly flow develops Rain from the North Carolina low will move up the coast and we should see some showery rains develop during the early morning hours before daybreak and then continue on and off through Friday. Temperatures tonight will bottom in the 50s. Friday highs will reach the 60s.
We should see a break in the rain at times overnight Friday into Saturday morning until the cold front to the west gets near the coast. More showers are likely to develop and move through Saturday morning into the afternoon. Temperatures will be in the 50s. Once the front passes another low develops offshore and heads for coastal New England. The low will strengthen and that will create drier condtions Saturday night. We will also see winds pick up from the northwest as the gradient tightens. Sunday will definitely be the better of the two weekend days with partly sunny skies but we will see gust winds of 30 to as high as 40 mph at times. It will also be colder with most highs in the low to mid 50s. Next week start cool for Monday and Tuesday but dry with some sunshine and highs in the 50s Dry weather continues all wee and we should see warmer temperatures Wednesday through Friday.
