Spring Pattern Ahead
Spring Pattern Ahead
Spring is not exactly my favorite time of year. Yes the days can be nice and sunny and warm weather will make more frequent appearances. It is also a season for onshore flow and blocking patterns that can lock you up in clouds and rain for a few days at a stretch. Odds of a snow threat continue to decrease with each passing day. Right now we can leave snow out of the forecast equation for the next week or so. We will be seeing ups and downs in the temperatures and it looks dry for the most part through Saturday.
SPRING COLD THURSDAY MORNING
The temperature swings begin on Wednesday as cold air comes in with high pressure from Canada. We will hit bottom Thursday morning with temperatures in the teens and low 20s. Then the warm up begins with high pressure moving offshore taking us into the 60s on Saturday.
SPRING WARMTH SATURDAY AFTERNOON
After Saturday it looks like it may get soupy for a few days. low pressure gets ejected out of the Southern Plains and heads northeast. Thanks to some blocking that is developing the low will track northeast into Illinois and then east from there, redeveloping off our coastline during Monday.

Now there is a cold high that will be building south from Southeastern Canada but the cold air that bleeds southward is shallow in nature and not a strong enough push to create snow issues. Instead at the moment it appears that a chilly rain sets up beginning on Sunday and lasting into early Tuesday. It looks like it could be an inch or so of rain spread out over 48 hours. With much of the snow cover disappearing by Sunday I don’t think it should cause any flooding problems. At the very least the heavy water content of the snow pack and the above normal snowfall for the winter in watershed areas should return rivers streams and lakes to near normal levels this spring. That at least is a good thing.
