Snow Forecast Friday 04062018 Saturday 04072018
It’s hard to believe we are still dealing with this nonsense but we are. We have 2 weather systems to look at. The first one on Friday is a quick shot Friday morning of a coating to an inch or so in some places. Areas in the Hudson Valley and the Catskills might see some isolated higher amounts. The system is weak and there really isn’t much potential here for an upside surprise (we hope).

Saturday is obviously the more potent of the two systems. It looks very much like Monday’s event except that the snow lasts longer in the daylight hours so remember that snow intensity is key here. If we see moderate snow falling at a rate of an inch an hour or more, the snow will likely stick to most surfaces. If the intensity is lighter and more variable then its colder surfaces with wet roads.

The late afternoon NAM model run remains fairly consistent. It was actually a little bit colder along the immediate coast which is something we need to pay attention to. The model also is very consistent in producing liquid precipitation amounts of 3/4 inch to 1 inch. Snow looks to start before daybreak (4am ish) and should be over with in most areas between 2pm and 5pm Saturday. Temperatures through all of this will be in the lower 30s while snow is falling. Weather conditions improve Saturday night into Sunday so at least the snow will do what it does best in April. It disappears quick.
