The storm prediction center of the National Weather Service has Southern New Jersey & Southeastern Pennsylvania southward at a marginal risk for severe weather later today with a slight risk indicated further to the south.

This is due to the shift away from the onshore slow in southern areas to a south southwest flow ahead of a cold front. None of the shortest of the short range models are especially bullish on the idea of strong thunderstorms. The HRRR model shows some isolated thunderstorms developing later this afternoon but no sign of an organized line of thunderstorms.

Later on tonight the HRRR model does bring up that organized area of rain in West Virginia and Western Virginia northward after 8pm.

This area looks to be arriving around New York City Long Island New Jersey Hudson Valley and Connecticut around midnight or so. We will monitor things and see how they play out later today.
