Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 9pm Thunderstorms Moving East Across Pennsylvania
The Storm Prediction Center has put a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for most of Pennsylvania, most of New Jersey except the northeast and southeast parts of the state and Northern Delaware. The watch is in effect until 9pm Eastern Time.
A large wide line of showers and thunderstorms is forming in Central Pennsylvania and these storms should strengthen as they move eastward over the next several hours. The radar shot below is from 3pm eastern time.
The satellite shows the blow up of those storms to the west but it also shows quite a bit of cloud cover from Northeastern New Jersey northeast into the Hudson Valley, NYC, Long Island and New England. There the winds are from the southeast and south off the cool water. Temperatures there are in the 60s and holding. To the west and south in the warm sector some sunshine developed and that has sent temperatures into the 80s with dew points in the mid to upper 60s. The air is juicy enough and an upper trough is moving east supporting these storms along with a cold front.
SATELLITE
Following the HRRR model which seems to have the best handle on these storms, look for activity to move from west to east with thunderstorms reaching the coast this evening. The loop starts at 5pm and continues until 4am Tuesday.
Weather conditions are still on course to improve on Tuesday with a partly sunny sky developing though there will be some scattered showers inland. Temperatures will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s but the humidity will be low and going lower as we move into Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Sunshine should dominate the three day period. Highs Wednesday and Thursday in the 70s. Friday’s highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
